The second week of Wimbledon 2025 kicked off with high drama and heartache, as Centre Court bore witness to a series of emotional and physically gruelling battles. From Novak Djokovic’s resilient comeback to Grigor Dimitrov’s heartbreaking exit, the All England Club was a cauldron of intensity and emotion, further magnified by the presence of tennis royalty Roger Federer, flanked by cricketing legends Virat Kohli, Joe Root, and James Anderson.
Grigor Dimitrov’s inspiring run was abruptly halted after a pectoral injury forced him to retire against World No. 1 Jannik Sinner. The Bulgarian had taken a commanding two-set lead with some of his best tennis in recent memory before injury struck early in the third. Visibly distraught, Dimitrov left the court in tears, handing Sinner a quarter-final berth in one of the most emotional moments of the tournament so far.
Djokovic juggernaut moves on
Novak Djokovic, chasing a record-equalling eighth Wimbledon title, showed once again why he thrives on adversity. After dropping the first set 1–6 to Alex de Minaur, the Serbian regrouped and reeled off 14 of the final 15 points to close out the match in four sets. It was a clinical turnaround that underlined his status as the man to beat on grass.
Elsewhere, American Ben Shelton advanced to his maiden Wimbledon quarter-final with a confident four-set win over Lorenzo Sonego. Italy’s Flavio Cobolli ended the inspired run of former finalist Marin Cilic in four hard-fought sets, stamping his arrival on the Grand Slam stage.
Andreeva, the youngest among all
In women’s singles, teenage sensation Mirra Andreeva continued her dream run by defeating Emma Navarro in straight sets. At just 18, she became the youngest women’s quarter-finalist at Wimbledon since 2007. World No. 1 Iga Swiatek also impressed, dismissing Denmark’s Clara Tauson with authority to reach her second Wimbledon quarter-final.
With the stakes rising and storylines intensifying, the second week at the All England Club promises fireworks as title contenders and rising stars collide in the battle for glory on grass.
